Course objectives

The aim of the course is to enhance the professional skills and standards of persons working in priestly formation in major seminaries, particularly in Africa.

For whom?

The course is intended for formators and candidates for formators in seminaries.

Core Curriculum:

     The classical division of seminary formation includes four dimensions: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral. Generally, the formators are graduates of specialized theological studies, therefore this course covers the other three dimensions of formation, i.e. human, spiritual, and pastoral.

     The course is conducted by the Faculty of Theology at UKSW. It includes three specialized thematic modules: human formation, spiritual formation and pastoral formation. It is oriented towards the acquisition of knowledge and practical skills in accordance with the indications of the latest documents of the Church, in particular:

– Second Vatican Council, Decree on Priestly Formation Optatam totius (28.10.1965).

– John Paul II, Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Pastores dabo vobis (25.03.1992),

– John Paul II, Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Via Consecrata (25.03.1996),

– Congregation for the Clergy, The Gift of a Vocation to the Priesthood. Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis (08.12.2016).

An important part of each module will be exercises (workshops) during which the students, led by formators with experience in international seminars, will have the opportunity to try out their skills in practice.

90 teaching hours (nine sessions of 10 hours each)

Workload:

Total workload of the participant: 6 ECTS

Successful completion of all modules is required to receive the certificate.

The course is organized over a period of 9 months. Meetings are held once a month (on Saturdays).
